ELIZABETH, NJ— Crews are cleaning up debris after a part of a building collapsed in the back of a parking lot in Elizabeth at Division Street and Trumbull Street.
According to the Elizabeth Fire Department when crews arrived their first priority was to make sure no one was trapped under the massive pile of rubble. The collapse took down a pole and wires at the location.
Strong winds were most likely responsible for knocking part of the wall down, but the official cause is under investigation sources said. No one was injured in the collapse.
According to officials, a structural engineer will go to the site on Tuesday, Dec. 26 to determine if the rest of the building is safe or if it will need to be knocked down.
Police have closed off the street to traffic.
