ELIZABETH, NJ - The Elizabeth Avenue Partnership has been looking forward to a busy and prosperous Christmas shopping season. In a culturally rich community (over 50 national and 37 language groups) and wide range of specialty shops, restaurants of Latin and many other cuisines, comes a full schedule of holiday celebrations.
A part of Elizabeth’s Urban Enterprise Zone – a driver of more than $2 billion of economic development in the city – at least 50 participating shops, services and restaurants in “The Market” area typically charge only 3½ percent sales tax on taxable items. Add to that additional police, beautified streetscapes and infrastructure improvements and it’s easy to grasp the area’s popularity this time of year.
“Everyone is welcome,” says Mary Ann Coscarelli. “Shop, dine, discover Elizabeth Avenue!”
Parking rates will not be altered for the season, since it would be too expensive, she added.
Besides the December 10th Tree Lighting rain date in Union Square Plaza (5 pm - 7 pm), free children’s events will include December 5th pony rides, and December 12th horse-drawn wagon rides & holiday music, and December 19th petting zoo & holiday music (all at noon – 3 pm). All are sponsored by the Elizabeth Avenue Partnership and TD Bank.
