Elizabeth Firefighters FMBA Local 9 Honored with Community Service Award by Missionaries on a Mission

ROSELLE, NJ – Missionaries on a Mission honored Elizabeth Firefighters FMBA Local 9 with the Community Service Award for community involvement, outstanding leadership and outstanding achievements.

The award was presented by President Missionary Cerise Simmons at the Missionaries on a Mission Block Party and Community Awareness Day held on Saturday on Poplar Street between 1st and East 2nd avenues in Roselle. Local 9 Vice-President David Bialas was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the organization.

Missionaries on a Mission is a faith-based organization that focuses on charity work in Elizabeth and surrounding areas in the county.

This past year, FMBA Local 9 worked with Missionaries on a Mission on Thanksgiving food baskets with a donation of turkeys and hams and a Holiday Bicycle Giveaway in honor of late Elizabeth Police Department Det. Edward Gray, father of Local 9 member Mark Gray. “It has been a pleasure to work with Cerise Simmons and her organization,” said Bialas. “They are truly selfless in their tireless work in the community.”

The Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association of New Jersey, Branch No. 9, Inc. (FMBA Local 9) is a community organization that represents and promotes the interests of the firefighters of the City of Elizabeth Fire Department. FMBA Local 9 is a branch of the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association.

Goethals Bridge to New Jersey to be Closed Friday Night through Sunday

ELIZABETH, NJ - The Goethals Bridge to New Jersey will be closed to all traffic beginning 9 p.m. Friday, May 18 until 9 p.m. Sunday, May 20.
