ELIZABETH, NJ - Mayor Bollwage along with Fire Director Byrnes and Fire Chief Peterson held a service Friday morning to honor the victims of 9/11 and the first responders who volunteered at the scene.

The Mayor honored the six Elizabeth victims who passed away on September 11: Arcelia Castillo, Carlos DaCosta, Colleen Fraser, Margaret Lewis, Frankie Serrano and Anthony Tempesta. The family members of the victims were also present at the memorial.

The firefighters, including the current Fire Chief, who responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11 or participated in the ensuing search and rescue were then honored by Mayor Bollwage.

“For days after, members of this department and departments in the surrounding areas went in to search the rubble for survivors and help in any way,” said Chief Peterson.

Six wreaths were placed around the site of the memorial to commemorate the six victims. American flags were then lowered by the honor guard who then performed a ceremonial three-volley salute. Father George Gillen of St. Genevieve’s Church gave the final prayer.
