ELIZABETH, NJ – The Elizabeth SWAT team surrounded a house where an Elizabeth man barricaded himself after supposedly hit his wife with a sandwich maker, and who then tried to hold their one-year-old child hostage, according to Elizabeth police sources.

The incidence began at about midnight, Dec. 29. A negotiator from Union County as well as other County police officers were called in, and they were able to get the mother and child out of the house.  The husband, who was not identified, barricaded himself inside possibly with a weapon. He reportedly has a long history of criminal charges, according to police.
