ELIZABETH, NJ — Make the Road New Jersey is helping out students who are applying for financial aid programs.

Make the Road’s Student Success Center at Halsey Academy will be guiding students on how to apply for federal and state aid. The application help is open to all Elizabeth Public Schools students and will be done over Zoom by appointment on October 30 from 3-6 p.m. Appointments have to be made by emailing michael.asparrin@maketheroadnj.org.

To receive federal financial aid students have to fill out the FAFSA form. Federal aid is only open to students who are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or visa holder.

For students who do not fit into those categories the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application was created by the Higher Education Assistance Authority. To qualify, students have to be either undocumented or a D.A.C.A. recipient. They also must have attended three or more years of high school in New Jersey and will be attending a school in New Jersey for their postsecondary education.
