NEWARK, NJ – An Elizabeth man was arrested by Newark Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team (F.A.T.) March 21 and charged with aggravated assault, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.

Lorenzo Piar, 30, was arrested for an incident that occurred Saturday, March 11, on North Sixth Street in Newark. Piar, a relative of the male victim, pointed a handgun at him before fighting with him.  Both Piar and one of his two accomplices struck the victim with a baseball before the trio fled in a car.

Later that afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers responded to University Hospital where a 35-year old male was receiving treatment for the assault. The victim was released after receiving treatment for his injuries.

F.A.T. detectives arrested Piar in Elizabeth without incident. Piar is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon. His accomplices remain at large.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
