SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ - The Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls soccer team improved to 7-0 on the season Thursday, defeating Elizabeth 8-0 at home.
Goals scored by Erika Muskus, Annie Pierce, Alyssa DiFrancesco, and Kerri McNeely put the Raiders out to a comfortable start in the first half.
Caroline Babis and Christina Rodgers added two more in the second half, as Muskus and DiFrancesco both recorded another goal a piece.
The substantial lead allowed the Raiders to utilize their roster depth, giving all of their players ample playing time.
"Everybody came and played strong off the bench. It's nice to have games where we can use our depth and it gives a chance for the kids who don't always get to see the field a chance to get playing time and get comfortable for when they are called upon to play," Assistant Coach Michelle Tobier said.
The win marks Andrea Leitner's seventh straight shutout in goal, disallowing each and every team a goal all season.
"Andrea's been practicing very hard and working out really hard and making adjustments to her game, coming off her line and committing to the decisions she's making as a goalkeeper and I think it's really improved her confidence," Tobier said. "She's a definite leader in the back for us, she's talking a lot giving the team direction because she can see everything in front of her."
"We have some pretty big games coming up in October," Tobier added. "We're all a work in progress, we're still getting better and trying to come together correctly as a team and work hard in the upcoming weeks."
The undefeated Raiders will travel to Rahway on Tuesday, Sept. 29, to face a 4-2-1 Indians team coming off a 6-0 win.
