ELIZABETH, NJ – Monmouth Road was a sea of blue as hundreds of firefighters from across the state put on their dress uniforms and formed an honor guard at the funeral of retired Elizabeth Fire Department Chief Louis Kelly, Dec.20, in St. Genevieve’s Church.

Chief Kelly, who was the Union County mutual aid coordinator, died due to complications from a heart attack suffered on the scene of a home fire in Clark Dec. 16. He responded to a house fire of a Clark police officer on Crescent Parkway on Dec.8.  While on the scene Kelly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Chief Kelly’s children have set up a gofundme to raise funds for two of their father’s favorite charities, the New Jersey Firemen’s Home and the St. Barnabas Children’s Burn Camp. He made this request while in the hospital. According to the website, “This ultimately became the Chief's final ‘Order.’”
