REGION - The 2015 Liberty Jamboree, which would have been the first overnight scouting event in Liberty State Park in Jersey City in more than 10 years, has been cancelled.
The Boy Scouts of America event, which was to have taken place this weekend, was called off due to the anticipated inclement weather. Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency with heavy rain and winds forecast for parts of New Jersey this weekend.
"After meeting with Jamboree, state, and park officials, the state has directed us to cancel the 2015 Liberty Jamboree. The Jamboree committee has worked tirelessly to find the best possible way to safely conduct the event, and the safety of our Scouts and leaders has always been our number one priority," the Liberty Jamboree Committee said in an official release on Thursday.
