ROSELLE PARK, NJ - It takes a village….. Christmas and Holiday cheer will be spread throughout Union County thanks to Roselle Park 24/7, The Union County Freeholders, and the Patricia Lopez Memorial Charity.
Roselle Park 24/7, spearheaded by former Mayor Joe DeIorio and his husband, Councilman elect Thos Shipley set up toy collection sites throughout Roselle Park to procure toys and presents for Children’s Specialized Hospital in Roselle Park.
Collection sites in Roselle Park included three local businesses: Joe and Jodi’s Barber Shop, Brennan N Sons and Dowling’s Irish Pub and Restaurant. The Roselle Park Fire Department also made a noteworthy contribution. The collection originated in Roselle Park by Woody Bodtmann and John Signorella last year out of The Music Workshop. This year Signorella moved to Las Vegas and DeIorio asked if the Roselle Park 24/7 wanted to continue.
“Brennan N Sons, formerly Bob’s Card Park, Joe and Jodi’s Barber Shop and one of Roselle Parks newest businesses, Dowling’s Pub and Restaurant deserve great kudos for stepping up and jumping into the spirit of giving back to the community” stated Kathy Lloyd of Roselle 24/7. Toys collected by the non-profit will also be shared with The Patricia Lopez Memorial Charity and distributed within its service area. Lloyd added, “We are thankful to everyone who donated and the efforts extended by our local non-profit, businesses and the Union County Freeholders. Great success can happen when we all work together to make a positive change.”
The response was so overwhelming that the overflow of toys will also be distributed by the Patricia Lopez Memorial Charity in conjunction with the Union County Freeholders Toy Drive. The Patricia Lopez Memorial Charity has been providing toys and support to families in need in Union County for 29 years. Patricia’s daughters Tina, Tricia and Denise have maintained the tradition with the support of the Union County Freeholders. Hundreds of families’ are provided gifts to make dreams come true for their children during the holidays.
At the Children’s Specialized Hospital Pediatric Medical Day Care on Westfield Avenue, the bags of toys kept coming through the door December 22. The hospital is a provider of inpatient and outpatient care for children from birth to 21 years of age facing special health challenges — from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal cord injuries, to developmental and behavioral issues like autism and mental health.
Roselle Park 24/7, is a sister charity to Roselle 24/7 which was incorporated by Roselle residents Kathy Lloyd and Doreen Rinaldo several years ago. Roselle 24/7 sponsors the Neighbors helping Neighbors program as well as several other initiatives within Roselle and surrounding areas.
Since its inception this year Roselle Park 24/7 has raised community funds for Marching Band rain gear, Art projects, food donations, and Pet Chip Scanners to reunite lost pets with their owners. This community toy drive is its most recent event and the response has been outstanding. Jodi Bellomo of Joe and Jodi’s Barber Shop in Roselle Park is delighted to help provide a collection point for the toys. “My main concern is that the toys get distributed safely and bring smiles to the faces of those that receive them. We are also donating to a local woman’s shelter. Joe DeIorio and Thos Shipley of Roselle Park 24/7 deserve credit for this awesome venture!” stated Bellomo
