ELIZABETH, NJ – Jacob Enterprises began construction today for the first major chain grocery store, Foodtown, to be located  east of Routes 1 & 9. In addition to Foodtown, the 25,000-square-foot Pointe Grande Plaza, at the intersection of East Grand Street and  Livingston and Division streets, will house a laundromat and other retail businesses.

According to the architect Matthew Jarmel of Jarmel Kizel, “There will also be a 15,000 square foot strip mall that will house retail businesses.”

The project is funded by Valley National Bank, the state Economic Development Authority, and the Elizabeth Economic Development Co. The city of Elizabeth remediated brownfield to make the project possible. The space is reportedly 85 percent filled, and the completion date is late summer or fall.
