Elizabeth, NJ – Make the Road New Jersey, along with Dreamer youth and local and state officials have planned a march this evening in Elizabeth to defend the Trump administration’s possible plans to dismantle Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
DACA is an Obama-era program which granted about 800,000 immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children permission to stay and work.
President Trump, while on the campaign trail, has often attacked DACA but has since vowed to keep the program going despite calls from others in his administration to wind down the program.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Trump that he considers it unconstitutional and cannot defend it in court, according to anonymous sources familiar with the discussions.
Although the Justice Department is responsible for defending the program, Sessions is a fierce opponent of DACA. If DACA ends, those in the program could be easier for authorities to locate and subject to deportation.
The march is scheduled for tonight, August 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Immigration USCIS building on Broad Street, Elizabeth.
