ELIZABETH, NJ – For the second year, Spirito’s Restaurant has been named one of the 50 top restaurants, this year by The Daily Meal.

The popular Third Avenue eatery, which MSN also voted a top Italian restaurant in 2016, has served generations of patrons and attracts customers from all over the state and beyond. “If you’re from a certain part of Northern New Jersey, there’s about a 100 percent chance that you’ve heard of Spirito’s and an equally good chance that you’ve been there,” wrote The Daily Mail on its website.

Spirito’s opened its doors during the Depression when Antonio Spirito started serving sausage, onion and pepper sandwiches, eventually expanding to a full menu. Today, the restaurant is run by the fourth generation Spirito in a building on the corner of Third Avenue and High street where time seems to be standing still. The booths in the green, wood-paneled dining room are comfortably familiar to regulars as is the menu that rarely changes. It is still the place to come for homemade ravioli, veal parmigiana, and, of course, pizza.
