The New Jim Crow: From Awareness to Action

MONTCLAIR, NJ - The public is invited to participate in a discussion entitled 'The New Jim Crow: From Awareness to Action' with Sen. Raymond J. Lesniak on October 27 from 7:30-9:00pm.

As part of the Still Speaking Montclair lecture series hosted by Union Congregational Church located at 176 Cooper Ave. in Upper Montclair, mass incarceration will be the topic for discussion with guest speakers Lesniak, NJ State Senator from the 20th legislative district and Frank Bolden, Vice-Chair, Board of Directors, United Church of Christ.

Bolden brings a historical perspective and Senator Lesniak brings a legislative perspective to the topic of the prison system in New Jersey and its impact on the black community.

Refreshments will be served at 7:00pm followed by the lecture with Q&A at 7:30pm and concluding with dessert and further discussion at 9:00pm.

Organizers express that they feel this topic is timely and compelling, with broad appeal.

WESTFIELD, NJ - A small electrical fire started around noon at Rock 'n' Joe's on Prospect Street on Saturday.
