UNION COUNTY, NJ -- The Union County Vocational-Technical School District has released its admissions information for 2020.  

The VoTech schools are: Academy for Allied Health Sciences (AAHS) Academy for Information Technology (AIT), Academy for Performing Arts (APA), Magnet High School (MHS), and Union County Vocations Technical High School UCTECH. They offer a number of exciting opportunities for students, including full-time and share-time high school programs, as well as adult education courses.

Attendance at an information session is a mandatory part of the admissions process. Interested applicants must register and attend an information session prior to completing an application. To register, choose the date of the information session you would like to attend below. Registration is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis:

  • Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.

Admissions Process

Applicants must be Union County residents and currently enrolled in 8th grade.  The admissions process for full-time students at UCVTS requires applicants to:

Attend an Information Session

Information sessions are held throughout the fall.  Students must pre-register. Attendance at an information session is a required step in the admission process.

Submit an Application and Transcripts to the Admissions Office

Applications are due Tuesday, December 15, 2015.  There are no exceptions.

Take an Admissions Exam

The multiple-choice Admissions Exam contains two sections, Language Arts and Mathematics.

The Admissions Exam for the Class of 2020 will be given Saturday, January 23, 2016. Students with a completed application by the deadline will be mailed more information regarding the admission exam in early January. 

Student Selection

Applicants are selected from a diverse population of eighth grade students in each of the 21 municipalities in Union County. The following criteria will be considered for admission: 

  • Grades in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies & Science

(7th grade & 1st marking period 8th grade)

  • Standardized Test Scores

(7th grade)

  • Admissions Examination

(Mathematics & Language Arts)

Students applying to the Academy for Performing Arts are also evaluated in an audition process. Auditions are only granted for applicants who have met the minimum academic qualifications and who have selected the Academy for Performing Arts as their first choice school.
