ELIZABETH, NJ – An 87-year-old woman died as the result of a three-alarm fire that broke out in the 900 block of Flora Street last night, Jan. 7, that also sent two Elizabeth firefighters to area hospitals, according to an Elizabeth Fire Department spokesman.
The female victim was rescued by firefighters, but died later in the hospital. The two firefighters who were transported to area hospitals have been released, according to fire department sources.
The fire broke out on the first floor of the two-family home late last night and was brought under control by firefighters shortly after midnight, according to reports.
Red Cross Disaster Action Team members provided emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing to a family of six displaced by the fire.
The fire is under investigation by Elizabeth officials.
