SCOTCH PLANS, NJ — (UPDATE) Scotch Plains Police flooding update 5:15 pm: Rt 22 is still closed thru most of SP. Water seems to be receding slightly however, there is major damage to sections of the roadway. Expect closures throughout the night as the NJDOT repairs the roadway.

Shortly after the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Wednesday afternoon, motorists began reporting that Route 22 in Scotch Plains was closed in both directions due to flooding.

“I drove through some of it because I tried to get home, but it was near impossible,” said Mike DeBisco, who was forced to stop near Bowcraft Amusement park. “You can’t go on the road now. The rain is relentless. I might need to abandon my car.”
