ELIZABETH. NJ – When they hand over the keys to their teenager, most parents hold their breaths and hope for the best with good reason. Car crashes are the #1 killer of 15 to 20 year olds in America, more than guns, alcohol and drugs combined.
In 2014, more than 33,000 teenage drivers were involved in car crashes in New Jersey, most of which were preventable.
To assist in reducing this number, the Elizabeth Education Association (EEA) and the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) are partnering with Save Your Teen Driver, LLC, to offer a free workshop to parents and teenagers. Parents and Teens will take an interactive, online evaluation that “tests drivers in the six key areas of driving.” From this 20 minute evaluation, drivers learns their driving score as well as their risk level of causing a crash.
Parents and their teenagers may bring their own laptops or one will be provided. Participants will be able to take the test, receive their scores, and meet with a certified Defensive Driving expert afterward for a Q & A session .
