Wrestling: Two Elizabeth High School Wrestlers Advance to Regionals

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Two Elizabeth High School wrestlers will advanced to the regional tournament this week after placing among the top three performers in their weight class at the District 13 meet at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Feb.18.

Seniors David Rodgers and Aziz Lawson in the 195 and 220 weight classes placed third and second respectively.    

Hosting the NJSIAA District 13 Wrestling Tournament for the first time ever, Scotch Plains-Fanwood finished third behind Catholic School sports powerhouses Seton Hall Prep and St. Peter's Prep.

Sam Wustefeld won the 182 lb. weight class. Jeremy Lenart, who has been wrestling for just two years, finished second in the 113 lb. class., Jack Cannon (132 lbs.), Nick Palazzolo (152 lbs.), wrestling with a brace on his injured left arm, and Eddie Smith (190 lbs.) also finished second in their groups.

Michael Kelly (120 lbs.) of St. Peter's Prep was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. He won his final round match against Rahway’s previously unbeaten Sabri Murray.
