Young Elizabeth Soccer Players Get Tips From the Pros

ELIZABETH, NJ – Dozens of budding soccer pros took to the Waterfront Field, Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 1 to 6 p.m. to learn from the New York Red Bulls Soccer Training Team who conducted free soccer challenges for kids ages 7-16, as part of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative. The event was sponsored by the Greater Union County United Way and the City of Elizabeth.

“This is a fun day, but it is also about getting fit and staying fit throughout your life,” said Council President Patricia Perkins-Auguste.

The soccer clinic highlighted the “Get Fit for All Ages” event, which promoted good health, positive peer interaction and, a healthy and active lifestyle.  The team will also conduct exercises in dribbling-passing-receiving-shooting, soccer tennis challenges, juggling techniques, and more. The New York Red Bulls Street Team (Freestylers) demonstrated their skills and entertained the crowd.

"The American Dance Studio Service Stars" and “Golden Girls and Guy Steppers” also performed.  Giovanna Drpic, anchor and producer for Verizon Fios1,Money & Main$treet, will served as the day’s MC, and Miss Middlesex County, Amanda Martinez, (who also was a TAPinto intern) and Miss Union County, Samantha Rizzuto, appeared representing the Miss America Organization, accompanied by beauty queens from various ethnic groups within the city.
