Liberal Libations of the 18th Century

According to Thomas Jefferson, “Beer, if drunk in moderation, softens the temper, cheers the spirit, promotes health.”  He was not the only early American to believe so — colonists treasured their beer, rum and hard cider.  The museum's program, about the many alcoholic beverages the colonists consumed on a daily basis, includes a brief talk, a display of artifacts, and a nonalcoholic punch for sampling.  Tours of the fully furnished, c1740 museum and open-hearth cooking demonstrations using early American recipes (perhaps featuring one of the libations!) are also included.  Admission is $5 ages 13 and older; $3 ages 3 to 12, and free under age 3.

Welcome to Mommy Mayor

Six years ago I started this journey that I called Mommy Mayor. I was embarking on my third year on council, my first term as Mayor and I did so with a toddler and infant in hand.

I started Mommy Mayor as an opportunity to highlight all that woman can do, to bring awareness to the successes and obstacles that come with being a working mom and a mom in public service. To be honest I also did it ...
