MONDAY, MAY 27

MEMORIAL DAY

City Hall will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.

ANNUAL FIREMEN’S MEMORIAL SERVICE

(10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., South Broad Street, Elizabeth) Mayor Bollwage will join members of the Elizabeth Exempt Firemen’s Association at their annual memorial service. The ceremony will honor all firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

(11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Winfield Scott Plaza, Elizabeth) - The City of Elizabeth will host its annual Memorial Day Service. The commemoration ceremony, honoring all those who have died in our nation’s service, will be held in Winfield Scott Park across from City Hall.

TUESDAY, MAY 28

YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT DAY

(9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., City Hall, Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, Elizabeth) - Mayor Bollwage, along with members of City Council and City Directors will participate in the annual Youth in City Government Day. During this event, students from Elizabeth’s public schools are paired with a City official for a day of learning about Municipal Government and the City at large. The students are designated to act in the official capacity of the representatives they are paired with for the day.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 29

GROUNDBREAKING OF VINTY

(11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 190 Union Street, Elizabeth) - Mayor Bollwage will attend the groundbreaking ceremony of VINTY, a new development project in Midtown Elizabeth. The rain date will be on May 30th.

THURSDAY, MAY 30

TRANSPORTATION SUMMIT

(10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., 408 Palmer Street, Elizabeth) - Mayor Bollwage will join Lifelong Elizabeth and the City’s Office on Aging Bureau at a Transportation Summit in celebration of Older Adult Month at the Peterstown Community Center.

The forum will talk to residents about the many transportation options available to them and becoming a safe driver.

Informational tables will feature organization such as: NJ Transit, AARP Driver Safety, NJTIP @ Rutgers, City of Elizabeth Transportation Department and more. For more information, please call 908-352-8375.

FRIDAY, MAY 31

THE LEAGUERS, INC. MULTICULTURAL DAY

(9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., 1189 East Broad Street, Elizabeth) Mayor Bollwage will join The Leaguers, Inc. at their Multicultural Day event. It will be held in front of the school.

PORTUGUESE FLAG RAISING

(6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., 50 Winfield Scott Plaza, Elizabeth) Mayor Bollwage will join members of the Portuguese community and other Elizabeth residents as the Portuguese Flag is raised outside of City Hall. Immediately following the event, there will be a program and Proclamation signing in City Council Chambers.

SATURDAY, JUNE 1

SECOND WARD PLAYSTREETS

(10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., between South Fifth Street and Fifth Avenue, Elizabeth) - Mayor Bollwage will join Second Ward Councilman Nelson Gonzalez and community members at the Second Ward Playstreets celebration. This family-friendly event, which will be held across from Mattano Park, is recommended for ages 6 through 14 and will include a morning of games, raffles, giveaways and more. It is sponsored by Mayor Bollwage, The City of Elizabeth, Councilman Nelson Gonzalez and Shaping Elizabeth. For more information, contact 908-820-4051.

SUNDAY, JUNE 2

PORTUGAL DAY PARADE

(2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., 417 US Route 1&9 and Grove Street, Elizabeth) Mayor Bollwage will attend the annual Portugal Day Parade. Festivities will begin at Union Square, located on Elizabeth Avenue & High Street and conclude at the Portuguese Instructive Social Club on Route 1&9.
