ELIZABETH/CRANFORD, NJ - The 2nd Annual Charlie’s Angel Prostate Cancer Walk honoring the memory of Charlie Robert Bathelus, will be held at Nomahegan Park in Cranford on Saturday, September 21, from 8 a.m. to Noon.

This non-profit foundation and its work, are in honor of the late Charlie Robert Bathelus, father of Elizabeth Board of Education member Charlene Bathelus. Mr. Bathelus who died in 2016 after a nearly three-year battle with prostate cancer.

The Charlie Robert Prostate Cancer Foundation promotes awareness, empower, encourage and educate men while saving lives.

The foundation’s goal is to help reduce deaths from prostate cancer by 20 percent between 2018-2030. Current statistics make research and education critical, Charlene Bathelus said:

  • African-American men are 70 percent more likely to get prostate cancer
  • Active duty military personnel are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer as their civilian counterparts
  • Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in men in the United States, with approximately one in every six being diagnosed during his lifetime

The walk will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. with the Walk starting at 9 a.m.

A special program of recognition, awards, PSA screenings, I’ve music and more will start at 10:30 a.m.
