ELIZABETH, NJ - The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, recently made a $125,000 grant award to Community Access Unlimited as part of the foundation’s Housing for Everyone grant competition. A total of $3.75 million was provided to 30 nonprofits to improve access to safe, clean and affordable housing in communities from Maine to Florida.

Community Access Unlimited (CAU) provides community access through effective and comprehensive support services for people with disabilities, youth and people with affordable housing needs, giving them the opportunity to live independently and to lead normal and productive lives as citizens integrated into the community. The funds from the TD Charitable Foundation will offset construction costs for a new CAU residential program in Union where 4 adults with developmental disabilities will live and receive professional support services in a barrier-free home. The same project included removal of dilapidated playground equipment from a lot that was returned to the Township and renovated as a new playground for the enjoyment of the community.

"The Housing for Everyone grants bring the bank's social impact platform, the TD Ready Commitment, to life by helping to create safe, affordable residences for those in greatest need," said Paige Carlson-Heim, Director of the TD Charitable Foundation and Office of Charitable and Community Giving. "We recognize that having a safe, affordable place to live is essential to achieving financial security."

“We are thrilled to accept this grant in support of such an exciting community project,” said Bernadette Griswold, executive director of CAU. “The project is truly representative of what community means at its core, bringing community-serving government and non-profit agencies and members of the community together to meet needs, problem-solve and collectively achieve outcomes that benefit whole communities.”
