Elizabeth, NJ – YWCA Union County, celebrating their centennial year, will break ground on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 10 o’clock in the morning on their new building in Elizabeth at 1131 E Jersey Street. The Mayor of Elizabeth, J. Christian Bollwage and Union County Freeholders will be in attendance. The Westfield Foundation will present their lead gift of $250,000 for the YWCA Union County’s historic “Building For Our Future” capital campaign further cementing their longtime partnership with the organization. The new two-story building located in downtown Elizabeth will replace YWCA Union County’s former building which became uninhabitable due to a fire that occurred in September 2019. The new building will function as a central hub for all programs and be within close proximity to the Union County Prosecutor and Courthouse Offices.

The YWCA’s mission is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.  On a local level, YWCA Union County is on a mission to empower survivors of domestic violence to become safe and free from abuse, and to promote social justice and eliminate violence against women and girls. We accomplish this mission through the provision of comprehensive, client-centered services, and through education, collaboration and advocacy that builds safe, informed and supportive communities.

The Westfield Foundation provides funding support in the arts, health, aging, historic preservation, social services and civic projects. Since 1975, the Westfield Foundation continues to serve as a community foundation whose funds help people invest in causes they care most about and be an important resource for organizations with new or emerging needs. We multiply the impact of gift dollars by pooling them with other gifts and grants and build endowment funds benefiting the community forever and help create person legacies.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call YWCA Union County’s 24-Hour Hotline at 908-355-HELP (4357).
