ELIZABETH, NJ - Victor M. Richel, a native of Elizabeth, and long-time resident of Berkeley Heights, who has served as past chairman and now vice chairman, of the Trinitas Health and Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees, was named Hospital Trustee of the Year by the New Jersey Hospital Association during its 99th annual meeting held recently in Princeton.

Richel is a banking executive, philanthropist and community volunteer serving many organizations in Central and Northern New Jersey. After making his mark in banking and utilities, he became involved at the board level in local organizations including Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Union County College. He and his wife Andrea head the Cranford-based Richel Family Foundation.

Richel, who holds the distinction of being the only person to serve on the Boards of the three Elizabeth hospitals, was pivotal in the consolidation of those hospitals into the current Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

He notes that Trinitas, “…carries on the strengths, spirit, and compassion of all three hospitals. Trinitas offers 10 Centers of Excellence, which are a collection of the strong programs forged by Elizabeth General Medical Center, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Alexian Brothers Hospital.”

As Chairman of Union County College since 1995, he has witnessed the growth of the Trinitas School of Nursing, which is a cooperative program with the College.  Today, the School of Nursing is one of the largest professional nursing schools in the nation and is the first hospital-based school to receive Center of Excellence designation from the National League for Nursing.

According to Gary S. Horan, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trinitas, “The healthcare environment in New Jersey would be very different if Vic Richel had not committed his life’s work to leading and enhancing healthcare at both the local and state levels.”

Richel is also the Chairman, President, and CEO of Dominion Partners, a financial investment, real estate partnership, and consulting organization that provides consultation to banks and companies throughout the world. Additionally, he is Chairman of Metuchen Savings Bank, and he serves as Chairman of Westminster Properties, a development company licensed as a New Jersey new home builder and property management group as well as Richel Commercial Brokerage.
