ELIZABETH, NJ - The fatal shooting of 36-year-old Jermaine Lewis of Barnegat is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Elizabeth Police Department Chief Giacomo Sacca and Director Earl Graves jointly announced Friday.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on September 1, members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to the 600 block of Marshall Street and found Lewis at that location, having sustained serious injury, according to the preliminary investigation.

Lewis was transported to University Hospital in Newark for emergency treatment, and he was pronounced dead on September 3.

This investigation is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
