ELIZABETH, NJ - A death that took place at a local bar in Elizabeth early Saturday morning is under investigation says, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo. 

The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Oscar Melara of Elizabeth.

According to authorities,  Elizabeth Police units responded to a report of an altercation at Ben’s Bar on the 600 block of Meadow Street shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Arriving at the scene officers found  Melara there, having sustained injuries, according to the preliminary investigation.

Authorities said Melara was transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police say this remains an active investigation.
