ELIZABETH, NJ - The 12 Annual Festa San Vito came to a close on Sunday evening. The 4-day event as described by one of its organizers Vito Mazza is  " A family and friends cultural event."

Those who attended, walked the streets of Peterstown enjoying all of the vendors, great food, and drink while the kids enjoyed the rides and adults the entertainment from the stage. 

On Thursday night, the Elizabeth Public Schools Superintendent Award recipients from schools number 3 and 15 were invited and recognized. Both schools are neighborhood schools located in the Peterstown Area.

On Saturday Night Frank Malta a native son of Peterstown and a retired educator of 40 years in Elizabeth was honored with a plaque for his many years of success on the Softball Diamond. Multa was recently inducted into the Union County Softball Hall of Fame. He was known as a home run hitter who in one season hit 30 home runs in 30 games.

Elizabeth's Mayor Christian Bollwage shared stories of being an umpire in the league. Watching Malta Play. 

State Senator Joe Cryan of the 20th district that represents Elizabeth along with Roselle, Hillside and his hometown of Union. Stood next to Malta and said, "We couldn't be more proud than to see you inducted in the Union County Softball Hall of Fame.”

Malta wearing his original Sticky Fingers Jersey for the occasion, thanked all his teammates both past and present. He will officially be inducted at a ceremony to be held at the Kenilworth VFW on November 8, 2019.

Sunday night, the final night, of this event was the much anticipated 50/50 drawing. Just around 9:30 p.m., the lucky ticket was drawn. The lucky winner this year was a native of Peterstown, 26-year-old Carmine Moriello who took home $1827. 

We caught up with Moriello who said, " I have been walking in the precession since I was 8 years old,” referring to the walking of the Saint Vito Statue through the streets of Peterstown. A tradition lead by a hand full of community members. 

Just like that, the closing song starts to play. “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and the Festa Di San Vito 2019 came to a close.
