FAIR LAWN, NJ - The pedestrian struck and killed while crossing the street on Wednesday in front of the Municipal Building was identified as Yuri Berger, 63, of Fair Lawn, police said.
On July 29 at 9:45 a.m., Fair Lawn Police received multiple 911 calls for a pedestrian that was struck at the intersection of Fair Lawn and Parmalee Avenues, in front of the Fair Lawn Municipal Building.
Police said Berger was attempting to cross Fair Lawn Avenue in the cross walk when he was struck by a 2012 Honda driven by a 53-year-old male from Fair Lawn on Fair Lawn Avenue traveling westbound.
Berger was thrown into the eastbound lane of traffic and became trapped under the front of a 2017 Mercedes Benz driven by a 63-year-old male from Clifton who was stopped prior to the accident.
Fair Lawn Police arrived on scene and were able to lift the vehicle so Berger could be attended to. Life saving measures were started and Fair Lawn BLS and paramedics transported Berger to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Fair Lawn Police Department, with the assistance of the Bergen County Prosecutors Fatal Accident Team, investigated the accident. No other injuries were reported and motor vehicle summons are pending.
