All Chipotle locations in New Jersey were affected by the payment card security breach reported on May 27 by the Denver-based company.
An investigation by Chipotle found that hackers used malware to access payment card data from cards used on point-of-sale (POS) devices at most of its 2,250 restaurants between March 24 and April 18.
The malware searched for “track data,” which can include a cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date and internal verification code, read from the magnetic strip of a payment card as it was being routed through the POS device. There is no indication that other customer information was affected.
