Counterfeiters Caught at Shop Rite


FAIR LAWN - Five out-of-staters were arrested after purchasing items in Shop Rite with a counterfeit $100 bill.

According to a police report, on Aug. 17 at 11:28 p.m., Fair Lawn police arrested two of the individuals at Shop Rite, 17-17 River Road, after the store called 911 to report people in store who used a counterfeit $100 bill on a $9 purchase.

Two of individuals fled in a blue Hyundai Elantra with New York plates prior to police arrival but were located and stopped on River Road at Maple Avenue.

Inside the vehicle, police discovered $350 in counterfeit currency, three $100 bills and one $50 bill, along with $167.41 in product without receipts. Another $200 in counterfeit currency, two $100 bills, was recovered at Shop Rite.

Police found a total of $1,783 in real currency during searches in police headquarters.

Police arrested Marie Shaw, 43 of Allentown, PA; Ronell Charles, 20 of Bronx, NY; Sade Ross, 30 of Yonkers, NY; Dominique Brown, 31 of Bronx, NY; and Tiffany Butterfield, 20 of Bronx, NY.

Shaw and Charles were released after being charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
Ross was released after being charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception, receiving stolen property and possession of a forgery device.
Brown was released after being charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception, receiving stolen property, forgery and possession of a forgery device.
Butterfield, who was sent to Bergen County Jail, has arrest warrants out of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office with no bail, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office with no bail, and Rockaway. She was charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception, receiving stolen property and being the leader of organized crime. She has been sent to Bergen County Jail.
