FAIR LAWN, NJ - Speculation is running rampant over the man identified as Roosevelt Rene who was found dead in the basement of New York Giant defensive back Janoris Jenkins' home yesterday morning.
Aside from the famous sports connection, neighbors of the home at 14 Van Saun Place have not stopped buzzing because it's not often a dead body is discovered in this large but relatively quiet town.
Bergen County Acting Prosecutor Dennis Calo released a statement identifying the deceased as Roosevelt Rene, 25, and said the man had been "residing [at Jenkins' home as] of late," and is a "family friend of the residents" at the home.
According to NBC's RotoWorld sports web page, "Police are investigating the cause of death as a strangulation or suffocation...as of now, Janoris is believed to have no connection to the crime. He's been staying in Florida since the end of Organized Team Activities and minicamp. The Giants are 'aware of and monitoring the situation'."
"The investigation is continuing at this time and cause and manner of death will be determined by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office after a post-mortem exam," according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
