FAIR LAWN, NJ - The Mayor and Council has adopted an Ordinance which creates a “Do Not Knock” Registry for residents who do not wish to receive door-to-door solicitations. The “Do Not Knock” Registry is entirely voluntary.

The ordinance stipulates that residents may register their home on the “Do Not Knock” Registry by submitting their name and address to the Municipal Clerk’s Office. The list of names and addresses of residents who do not wish to receive door-to-door solicitations will be maintained by the Municipal Clerk.  This ordinance does not apply to the door-to-door activities of religious groups, non-profit organizations, charitable organizations, or political campaigners.

Those who are on the registry will receive a decal (one per residence) that can be placed on a front door or window that you do not wish to receive solicitors. Furthermore, the registry (addresses only) will be made available to those engaging in door-to-door solicitation to ensure that those who have been added to the “Do Not Knock” Registry do not receive unsolicited peddling.

The address will remain on the registry until written notification is received by the Borough Clerk that the resident wishes to remove the address from the registry.
