FAIR LAWN, NJ - Mayor Lisa Swain said she is "honored to be considered for the Assembly position" vacated by Assemblyman Tim Eustace, although no decisions have yet been made.

Swain said there will be a Democratic convention for District 38 "within the next couple of weeks when two people will be chosen for the open seats."

According to published reports, the position became open when Eustace resigned this week after being passed over to replace Senator Bob Gordon.

Gordon resigned to take a position at the Board of Public Utilities, which oversees the state's electricity, natural gas, water, telecommunications and cable television systems.

Assemblyman Joseph Lagana replaced Gordon in the State Senate and triggered a special election convention within approximatley the next 35 days to fill Lagana’s seat.  Democrats can fill Eustace’s seat at the same time, according to published reports.

Lagana’s Assembly seat is expected to go to Bergenfield Council President Arvin Amatorio, but this is not a foregone conclusion.

If Swain is appointed, she would be required to run for the seat in the November election.
