Fair Lawn Police Blotter - September 18



Theft:  On 8-27-17, a 19 year old female victim from Bergenfield responded to police headquarters to report that a white male, during a party at a residence on Grunauer Place, grabbed her by the wrist and take her cellphone, then ran off.  Det. Mark Wyka took over the investigation and was able to identify and arrest Justin Tidwell, age 21 of Passaic, on 9-8-17 after he admitted to taking the phone.  He was released after being charged with theft.


4:17 pm

Assault:  P.O. Luke Hintzen, P.O. William Hickey, P.O. Edward Egan, P.O. Robert Manning & Sgt. Paul Scott responded to Berdan Grove Park on a report of a fight on the soccer field and arrested one coach, Sean Cormack, age 45 of Fair Lawn, after he head-butted an opposing coach, a 52 year old male from Midland Park, after a verbal altercation about the game.  Cormack also struck the opposing coach’s son, a 9 year old male from Midland Park, with his hand after the juvenile, with other players and attendees, tried to break up the fight.  The juvenile was transported by Fair Lawn Ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center due to dizziness.

   Cormack was transported to Valley Hospital due to a head injury.  He was charged with two counts of simple assault.


7:55 pm

Narcotics:  P.O. Juan Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at East Amsterdam Avenue and arrested the operator, Joseph Corcoran, age 34 of Township of Washington, after drugs were retrieved from inside the vehicle.  He was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, cracked safety glass & operating with a suspended license.

Burglary Tools:  Det. Mark Wyka approached a suspicious person on a bicycle on Maple Avenue at Elm Avenue when that person fled from him onto Route 208.  Frank Gonzalez, age 54 of Paterson, was located hiding behind a trash dumpster at 23-00 Route 208 by Det/Sgt. Tim O’Shaughnessy & Det. Anthony Lugo and was arrested with bolt cutters and the bicycle that was discovered to have been taken from a residence on Radburn Road in Glen Rock.  He was charged with obstruction of justice & possession of burglary tools, then handed over to Glen Rock Police.

Driving While Intoxicated:  P.O. Robert Manning initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 208 North at Maple Avenue and arrested the operator, Joy Varghese, age 54 (male) from Paramus, after he was unable to perform a roadside sobriety test.  He was released to a family member after being charged with failure to maintain a single lane, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated & refusal to submit to breath samples.

Wanted Person:  P.O. Nicholas Snyder initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at 34th Street and arrested the operator, Doreen Morris-Acquah, age 52 of Paterson, after an arrest warrant was located out of East Orange for $144.  She was charged with operating with a suspended license, then released after posting bail.


1:44 pm

Narcotics:  P.O. Luis Vasquez approached a suspicious male walking on Maple Avenue at Route 208 and arrested Michael Vest, age 25 of Glen Rock, after drugs were found in his pocket.  An arrest warrant was located out of Hawthorne for $2500.  He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia & possession of a hypodermic needle, then handed over to Hawthorne Police.


6:00 am

Driving While Intoxicated:  Fair Lawn Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Fair Lawn Avenue at River Road where one of the vehicle’s had fled the scene.  The vehicle was located on 3rd Street at Hopper Avenue unoccupied, but the operator contacted police headquarters a short time later.  Sean Alers, age 24 of South Plainfield, was arrested by P.O. Robert Manning after failing a roadside sobriety test.  He was turned over to a responsible adult after being charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash & driving while intoxicated.


8:47 pm

Narcotics:  P.O. Geovanny Buitron initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 208 North at DeBoer Drive and arrested the operator, Megan Maguire, age 28 of Warwick, NY, and the passenger, Jedediah Paquette, age 27 of warwick, NY, after drugs were located inside the vehicle.  Maguire was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of a hypodermic needle & possession of drug paraphernalia.  Paquette was released after being charged with two counts of possession of CDS.


11:00 pm

Narcotics:  Fair Lawn Police responded to a residence on Saddle River Road after an unknown person knocked on the window of the residence and left their vehicle in the driveway of that residence.  Matthew Bourgholtzer, age 27 of Mahwah, was located by P.O. Justin DiGuglielmo on Broadway carrying a portable gas can and arrested him when drugs were located inside the vehicle that he had been operating and that had run out of gas.  He was released after being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of drug paraphernalia.
