FAIR LAWN, NJ - An altercation at Fair Lawn's Promenade on Route 208 that went viral on the Internet has been resolved after a meeting at Borough Hall, led by Fair Lawn Police and the mayor. No charges have been filed.
According to a police report, on Aug. 5 at 6:10 p.m., Fair Lawn Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a female resident of The Promenade reporting that a male juvenile had fallen off his bicycle and hit his head on the street in front of her building.
"Certain media outlets released a video of the conclusion of the incident that had turned into a verbal altercation," Sergeant Brian Metzler said in a police report.
Police discovered two additional videos that were recorded prior to the viral video that was released on the Internet. "The new videos show a misunderstanding by all parties involved that turned into a verbal altercation that was seen in the third video released by certain media outlets," Metzler said.
On Aug. 29, all parties involved in the incident, along with Mecionis, Fair Lawn Chief Glen Cauwels and Fair Lawn Mayor Kurt Peluso, met at the Municipal Building.
“Unfortunately, when a video goes viral it often puts everyone in a negative light," Peluso said. "When this happened in Fair Lawn, we wanted to make sure that these actions did not define the individuals. We created a teachable moment for all and are thrilled that everyone has come together."
