Fair Lawn to Extend Outdoor Eating Time Period

FAIR LAWN - The Borough Council plans to amend its outdoor eating ordinance by six weeks.

Currently, restaurants can serve food outdoors from April 1 through Oct. 31. The change will allow outdoor eating from March 1 through Nov. 15.

"This winter, there were some warm stretches," deputy mayor Kurt Peluso said on May 16 during a council work session. "I thought, wouldn't it be nice to eat outside?"

Peluso said he did not foresee restaurants moving outdoors for one day of warmer-than-normal weather, but if nice weather is forecasted for a week or two, then restaurants could choose to serve outside.

The amended ordinance is planned for introduction on May 23.
