GLEN ROCK, NJ - For more than five hours yesterday, an 18-month-old black bear entertained a neighborhood near Doremus Avenue at the adjacent CVS as he was lured out of a tree with donuts, according to police and Facebook reports.

"The identity of the bear taken into custody on the 500 block of Doremus Avenue is not being disclosed as he is only 18 months old," Police Chief Dean Ackermann joked in an email to the press. "However, he has been released on his own recognizance to a more suitable location in western New Jersey.  According to Fish and Wildlife personnel he is doing quite well in his natural environment."

According to police, at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday, Glen Rock Police and Animal Control responded to numerous 9-1-1 reports of a bear walking through yards between Lincoln Avenue and Doremus Avenue, causing a great deal of chatter on Facebook.

The bear was eventually located in a tree on the 500 block of Doremus Avenue adjacent to CVS. Police, Fire Department and Animal Control personnel worked to keep the bear contained until the arrival of personnel from the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife, who were able to tranquilize and transport the bear to a safe environment in western New Jersey.
