MONTVILLE, NJ - The Alliance of Private Special Education Schools in North Jersey is proud to announce the winners for their annual scholarships. Matthew Ng, a student at The Forum School in Waldwick is awarded the Joe Gorga Transition to Adult Life Scholarship and Emily Buckman, a student at River Dell Regional High School is awarded the Connections for the Future Scholarship.
For the past five years, the Alliance has provided graduating seniors with special needs the opportunity to receive funds to support continuing education, training and community integration after high school graduation. Students who are selected have demonstrated self-motivation, compassion and diligence both in school and in the community, and exhibit pathways for very promising futures.
Aligning with his strong interest in dance, music and art, Fort Lee resident Matthew Ng, has plans to continue his education as a visual and performing artist having succeeded with many commercial graphic design projects and an animation video. Emily Buckman of River Edge plans to continue her education in special education so that she may “help special needs children to excel and enjoy school.”
Diane Somers, the scholarship chairperson said, “Every year I am truly uplifted to read all the accomplishments of these seniors who persevere and prove they can achieve academic excellence despite their challenges.” She added, “Matthew and Emily not only worked hard for their outstanding grades but exhibited their strong character by their actions in and for the community.”
Each student received $1,000 to continue moving toward their bright futures. The awards were given at the Alliance’s ‘Advocacy in Action’ Conference which took place on April 28 at The College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown.
