Opera Theatre of Montclair (OTM) will present its fourth mainstage production, Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) on Fridays, September 15 and 22, 8 PM, and Saturdays, September 16 and 23, 4 PM, at The United Way Theatre, 60 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair.

La Cenerentola is Rossini’s comedic take on the classic Cinderella story. Additionally, in this version, stage director Nicholas Tamagna will reset the action to a 1920s movie set. Expect tap dancing, rubber chickens, slapstick and Charlie Chaplinesque antics in addition to virtuoso singing in this fully staged and costumed production. The Opera Orchestra of Montclair will be conducted by Fernando Palomeque. The set design is by Joyce Korotkin with costumes by David Gillam.

The opera will be sung in the original Italian with English supertitles. This is the perfect introduction to opera for all ages. The nonprofit Opera Theatre of Montclair is committed to making opera accessible by keeping ticket prices low, to giving opportunities to local professional opera singers and to supplementing music education programs through outreach. One reviewer called OTM’s performances “Opera in your face!” due to the close proximity of its trained operatic voices to the audience.
