Relay for Life Events Offer Community Spirit & Fun, Event: June 9-10


FAIR LAWN, N.J., June 1, 2018 – The Fair Lawn chapter of Relay for Life, the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, is still taking team registrations for this year’s event, which will be held on June 9-10 at the Dobrow Sports Complex on Harristown Road in Fair Lawn, at De Boer Drive on the Glen Rock border. Details and registration are online at Individuals, families and businesses can form teams. This year’s event is being held in coordination with the Glen Rock committee.

During Relay, team members take turns walking around a track continuously to signify that cancer never sleeps. Teams also set up themed campsites and continue fundraising by collecting donations during the event and through the end of August. There will be entertainment, a tricky tray, games and activities during Relay, which is staffed and coordinated by volunteers from the community. In addition, there are several community fundraisers to support the Fair Lawn Relay for Life, as follows:

  • Tues., June 12 – Learn the art of belly dancing at the Fair Lawn Community Center, 10-10 20th Street from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person with all proceeds going to Relay for Life. Contact to purchase a ticket. All levels are welcome. Wear any comfortable dancewear, yoga clothes and hip scarves.
  • Thurs., June 14 – Jalapeños Mexican Grille, 930 Prospect Street in Glen Rock, will host Dine-out-for-Dollars from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.A portion of proceeds from all dine-in meals and drinks will be donated to the Relay.   • Thurs., July 12 – Fair Lawn Deputy Mayor John Cosgrove and Team Cosgrove will host a Pay it Forward Happy Hour on the porch at Dutch House Tavern, 24-07 Fair Lawn Avenue, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A $20 donation will include extended happy hour specials and a food buffet. Wristbands will be available at the door. The event will move indoors in case of inclement weather.
  • Sat., July 14 – Team Ted and Dena DeSantis, a member of the Fair Lawn Relay executive leadership team, will hold a Purple Ribbon Motorcycle Run in Wayne. Registration is at 9:00 a.m., kickstands up at 11:00 a.m. sharp. Riders will start at Indian Motorcycle, 665 Route 23South in Wayne, and end at American Legion Post 174, 55 Mountainview Boulevard, also in Wayne. The cost is $20 per rider or $35 for a rider with passenger for advance online registration (includes food); the on-site registration fee is $25 per rider and $45 for rider plus passenger. Non riders are welcome to join cyclists at 1:00 p.m. for refreshments with a $20 donation. The rain date will be Sunday, July 29. Details and registration are at
