Editor's Note: The original story posted yesterday stated the borough was moving forward with the pool building. That was inaccurate.
FAIR LAWN, NJ - The Borough Council is postponing the construction of a new pool administration building at Memorial Pool.
The funding for the $2,000,000 building had been appropriated in the 2020 budget prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council delayed the start of the improvement because of the uncertainty of the pandemic.
"We voted to postpone the building of the administration building at the pool, and we are putting the $2 million dollars back into the trust fund it came from," Councilwoman Cutrina Cutrone explained after reading the original erroneous article. "We do not think it is smart to spend that kind of money in the middle of a pandemic until we can be extra sure we can afford it without having to raise taxes as we had originally planned."
Memorial Pool opened late this summer due to COVID-19 restrictions but had a successful season, according to the borough administration. The pool has been operating with temporary trailer administration buildings for a number of years.
