Winter Storm Could be a Bust for Hawthorne, Possible Moderate Snowfall

Hawthorne, NJ - A rapidly developing nor’easter will bring strong winds and heavy snowfall to much of the United States east coast, including Florida, which saw its first measurable snowfall in Tallahassee since the 1980s. However, impacts in North Jersey remain challenging to predict, with eastern Passaic and Bergen County slipping under the far western margin of the storm.

Currently, National Weather Service snowfall potentials place eastern Passaic and western Bergen within the 2-4” inch range, however, track uncertainty remains high. As of midday today, January 3, guidance from weather models suggest as little as an inch to as much as 6” is possible for northeastern New Jersey. The gradient in accumulation will significantly increase to the east, and areas in Long Island could see almost a foot of snow, with higher amounts also possible from Ocean County southward. Regardless of snow total, dangerous cold will permeate the region Friday night and Saturday morning, with wind chills in Paramus reaching 15 below zero. Please refer to National Weather Service products for the latest updates and advisories.
