GLEN ROCK, NJ - “Turn Off the Light!” was the theme for the regional Rube Goldberg Machine contest hosted by Academy of Our Lady on Friday, February 7, in which Glen Rock Middle School students placed second.
Teams competed at this fun event presenting their multi-step designs made from a hilarious collection of everyday materials ranging from Slinkies to electric fans.
This is the second year for the Academy of Our Lady Rube Goldberg Club, run by Laura Kramer, and this is their first time hosting a local competition. Judges made their decision based on a number of criteria from how well the machine functioned, to how entertaining the theme and introduction were.
The individuals making those difficult decisions included, Councilmember Rob Dill, Ryan Brennan, Carl Damm, Sanjiv Ohri and Jennfier VanBlarcom. Ultimately, it was the Bulldog Builders, from Academy of Our Lady who came out on top, with the Triforce of Awesomeness from Glen Rock Middle School placing second. Both teams qualify to attend the national competition in Indiana.
