GLEN ROCK, NJ - High school senior Dylaney Sabino, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, nominated Una Kearns, Glen Rock High School Teacher, for the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, to recognize her impact as an educator, leader and role model.
"Ms. Kearns is an extremely passionate and intelligent educator whose experience working in the true world of business shows itself through every single lesson," Dylaney wrote. "She teaches several different classes at Glen Rock High School including marketing, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Ms. Kearns also puts an immense amount of time and effort into the annual High School Federal Reserve Challenge, an invitation only club in which she coaches and leads a small group of students in developing an economic forecast which is then presented to employees of the federal reserve. She also has experience leading our school's debate team. When in her classes and extracurriculars, Ms. Kearns is confident and bold and as a student I find every experience with her extremely inspiring and overall a great example to emulate as I grow up. She is truly one of the most uniquely experienced and exciting educators I have ever learned from and I believe I have learned so much from her courses and continue to learn more every day.
According to its website, "NSHSS, NATIONAL SOCIETY OF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS, provides its high school members the opportunity to acknowledge high school teachers, counselors or administrators who have made the most significant contribution to their academic career by nominating them as an Educator of Distinction. Nominations are accepted year-round. Since the program began in 2007, almost 50,000 educators have been recognized worldwide."
The definition for Educators of Distinction, according to https://www.nshss.org/, "are outstanding role models and exemplary practitioners who have made a lasting difference in a student's life by encouraging them to strive for excellence, not just in their academic pursuits, but in all their endeavors. Educators of Distinction are invited to attend the Society’s free member events around the country and are recognized with a personalized certificated presented by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel. Educators of Distinction are also eligible to compete for the NSHSS Educator of the Year award."
“The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction program is named for our Chairman, Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes. Mr. Nobel strongly believes that educators play a pivotal—and under-acknowledged—role in preparing students for success in school and in life. In that spirit, they have created the Educator of Distinction program to honor and reward exemplary teachers, counselors and administrators.”
