GLEN ROCK, NJ - Melinda Somers is Glen Rock High School's student of the month for September, district officials announced today.

As a junior last year, Melinda proposed a program for incoming freshmen. Her idea was formed from conversations with underclassmen and focused on the lack of transitional support provided to the incoming ninth-grade students.

Melinda provided honest, mature and insightful thoughts about the program and how it could help with the struggles of freshman year. She worked over the past six months to design, plan, and execute the program, which began in August for this year’s freshman class. This project will count toward her goal of Girl Scout Gold Award.

"Much thought and sincerity goes into everything this student does," district officials said, "and it is for these reasons she is chosen for Citizen of the Month."
