GLEN ROCK, NJ - What's a kid to do when school is out? The Glen Rock Community School has options for a variety of interests--its latest? Science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM Camp.
School’s Out Camps were introduced by the Glen Rock Community School in September of 2019. This camp was created as an enriching day for students to enjoy various activities when school is closed. Glen Rock Community School started with one School’s Out Camp, a Sports Camp, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Parents requested additional options, so they could choose what would interest their student for the day. The Community School listened and is bringing in an additional camp, a STEM Camp. Winter School’s Out Camps will take place on January 20, February 17 and 18, 2020, at one of the local Glen Rock elementary schools.
The newest addition to the School’s Out Camp offering is a STEM Camp, which is in collaboration with Steam Works Studio, a new venture opened by a Glen Rock family. Students will enjoy hands-on projects, tinkering and learning valuable science and technology skills that they will use in the future. Camp themes are provided in Robotics using LEGO™, hands-on step-by-step coding programs with MINECRAFT & Python, Silly Circuits and Electronics with Soldering, STOP MOTION ANIMATION and much more.
For students who enjoy a day of sports, they can still sign up for School’s Out Sports Camp which is in collaboration with TGA Premier Sports. The day will focus on a variety of sports including golf, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse, flag football, ultimate frisbee, cheer, floor hockey, soccer, wiffle ball and kickball.
Parents have the option of sending children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade to camp from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. At after care, which begins at 3 p.m., students will have access to board games, STEAM activities, trivia and more.
