The League of Women Voters of Fair Lawn reminds all citizens that New Jersey's primary election has been postponed until July 7, 2020 as a result of COVID-19. Additional voter deadlines have moved to reflect the new election date. It is crucial voters prepare now to participate in the primary safely.

The League encourages voters to vote safely from their homes using a Vote by Mail (VBM) ballot, commonly referred to as an “absentee” ballot. Vote by Mail ballots are available to all registered voters after applying. The deadline to apply through the mail for a Vote by Mail ballot is June 30, 2020. Applications are available on this link.

“Your voice is more important than ever before,” said Ilene Kahn, President of the League of Women Voters of Fair Lawn. “Do not wait to apply for your Vote by Mail ballot. We urge voters to act now to ensure they have adequate time to cast their ballots from the safety of home.”

The new voter registration deadline for the July primary is June 16, 2020. Registered voters currently affiliated with a political party who wish to change their party affiliation now have until May 13 to file a political party affiliation declaration form. Registered unaffiliated voters may declare at any time up to and including primary election day, and vote in that party’s primary. Voter registration forms and party affiliation declaration forms are available on this link.

Party affiliation declaration forms, voter registration forms, and vote-by-mail applications all need to be printed, signed, and mailed. If voters do not have access to a printer, please contact the League of Women Voters of Fair Lawn at LWVfairlawn@gmail.com for assistance.
